Cannabis & Safety Around Others

When using cannabis consider these safety measures to protect yourself and loved ones.

  • Second-hand cannabis smoke has many of the same harmful chemicals as second-hand tobacco smoke. There's no known safe level of exposure.
  • Keep your home and vehicle cannabis smoke and vapor-free. Smoke or vape outside, and away from children and pregnant women.
  • If you choose to use cannabis, use when your children aren't around. When you use cannabis you can reduce your ability to make decisions, respond to your children's needs, or react in an emergency.
  • Children and youth can easily mistake edible forms of cannabis for regular food and drink because they can look appealing. Don't leave products in areas that are easy to access, like countertops, cupboards, purses, pockets, or suitcases.
  • Keep all drugs (including cannabis, alcohol, tobacco, and tobacco-like products) locked up, out of sight, and out of reach of children and pets.
  • Keep cannabis and all drugs in their original containers. Make sure products are clearly labelled, especially homemade products. Cannabis packaging bought from a legal source is marked with the universal symbol for THC.
